Our U.S. Congressman came to town on Tuesday and met with local folks in the party room of our pizzeria. Ray and I were among the crowd of twenty-five or so who came out for the meet and greet.

Newly-elected freshman Congressman John Rose is a Christian gentleman. We chatted comfortably about church. He was genuinely interested in Ray’s time as a minister. Rose is a member of a congregation close to the last church where Ray served full-time.

Though Ray and I don’t know Rose personally, Ray shook hands with him last year at the Lancaster, Tennessee, 4th of July celebration we attend every year. When I went to my photo file of last year’s celebration to find a picture to illustrate today’s post, I was surprised to see that I had actually snapped a picture at that moment.

Rose hosts the celebration on his farm. When we told him that we always attend, he talked about how it has grown since they began fifteen years ago. He said that back then there were almost more people in the parade than were watching.

In my constant quest to share good news, I wanted to introduce you to this godly man in Congress, John Rose of the 6th district of Tennessee. I hope you’ll tell your children.

First of all, then, I urge that
entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings,
be made on behalf of all men,
for kings and all who are in authority,
so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life
in all godliness and dignity.
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who desires all men to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Timothy 2:1-2

  1. I’m sorry Charlene, but for this guy to continuously block disaster relief when tens of thousands of people are still suffering just makes him the plateau’s devil.

    Has he no shame?

  2. I’m glad Rep Rose was one of the few who stood in the gap for us. He is my representative in US Congress.

Here is more to this story:

“Roy on May 24 blocked the $19.1 billion disaster relief bill by objecting to a unanimous consent vote, arguing that the House should not have recessed before allowing lawmakers to debate the measure and go on the record regarding the legislation given the size of the spending.

“My Democratic colleagues tried three separate times to pass this $19 billion disaster supplemental, which is unpaid for and most members haven’t read, without members’ vote for a simple consent, which was solely two members in this chamber,” he said during debate on the floor.

“Members should cast an up-or-down vote on major legislation that spends significant amounts of taxpayer money. The American people send their representatives to Washington to represent them. They deserve to see how we vote,” he added.

Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and John Rose (R-Tenn.) followed Roy in taking action to block the bill during the House recess.

Roy on Monday also cited concerns with the bill’s impact on the national debt, arguing Congress needs to take strides to cut spending.

“While I’m happy the Speaker chose to go back to regular procedure, I am still troubled we’re poised to spend $19 billion that is not paid for when we are racking up $100 million an hour in national debt,” he said.” https://thehill.com/homenews/house/446724-gop-lawmaker-defends-blocking-disaster-relief-vote-during-recess
