Overflowing with Gratitude

As I walked into church yesterday morning, there was Miss Katherine, sitting in the little side annex—as she does every Sunday morning. She had driven to church—as she does every Sunday morning. She was happy to see us—as she is every Sunday morning.

When I stopped for a visit, I asked how she was. She briefly acknowledged that she has some symptoms of her age. Then she quickly told me how grateful she is. Gratitude is also something that is a constant in Miss Katherine’s life. As to her age-related symptoms, at 97 she doesn’t expect to feel perfect.

Gratitude—what a perfect response to life at any age. Please teach it to your children. It’s essential for a life lived well.

Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him
and established in your faith, just as you were instructed,
and overflowing with gratitude.
Colossians 2:6-7

About a year and a half ago, we filmed Miss Katherine telling a story about her daddy and a local doctor. If you would like to “meet” her, you can watch it here.

  1. My daughter and I are viewing these videos over the summer and we watched Miss Katherine’s video last week and we were struck by how beautiful she is and her wit. I wish we had a Miss Katherine in our lives!
