“Am I Going to Ruin My Children?” and Other Fears
How many of us have worried ourselves silly over this nagging question that goes deep to the root of who we are as mamas: Am I going to ruin my children? That question is the topic of my summer encouragement video at the bottom of this post.
And the topic of my post today is fear in general. I’m a bit embarrassed about this topic because of something I’ve been afraid of myself. We’ve published three more encouraging videos since I shared my “How can I stop worrying about the future?” video with you four weeks ago. We have shared those videos in our Notgrass History email newsletter and on social media, but we had so much trouble with the technology of getting that first video to you in a form you could watch — and hear — that I’ve been afraid to share the others on this blog!
However, I received one of the most heart-wrenching comments I have ever received after one of these new videos, so I decided that I’m willing to take the techie risk of giving it another try. These videos come from my heart and since that’s what this blog is about, here goes. I hope the technology works for you this time! So, now back to fear. What do we do with it? We really must give it to God. He’s the only One Who can handle our fears. He really has “got the whole world in His hands,” and He can handle it. Terrible things happen around us. Sometimes terrible things happen to us and to those we love. What are we going to do about it? Trust the One Who loves us.
The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you;
He will be with you.Â
He will not fail you or forsake you.
Do not fear or be dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:8
“But . . . but . . . ,” we say, “what if x, y, or z happens?” When that happens, we trust Him. King David lost a baby, one of his children murdered one of his other children, and David’s reaction was grief — and trust. David knew and lived the psalms he wrote.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
We look at what is happening around us and we see only what we see. God sees everything. We can trust Him.
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?
. . . I would have despaired unless I had believed
that I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.

Thank you, Charlene, for facing your fear and publishing this video!:-) It worked great! And as I watched, I was reminded that it was you who, many years ago through one of your books, encouraged me to realize that God had specifically chosen ME to be my children’s mama. It was the first time someone had pointed that out, and it made all the difference in the world, as far as my resting and trusting in God’s wisdom. Thank you for your continued encouragement and obedience to God!
