An Election Day Story About a Man Who Stepped Up

Yesterday I mentioned the homeschool graduate who once studied Uncle Sam and You and is now seeking a seat in the Kansas state senate. Yesterday her mother (I’ll call her Gail) emailed me a wonderful story from her daughter’s campaign. This eloquent story in Gail’s own words (but with the names changed) about a brave and committed man is the message I joyfully share with you today.

. . . We’re so thankful for His guiding hand these past campaign months. It’s been harder work than any of us expected, but we knew He was giving us good work, and He filled Tina and her team of volunteers with strength. We have so many interesting and wonderful stories from helping Tina run for office. I’ll share just one:

This past Saturday, Tina re-visited a supporter who has cancer. He’s a man in his 60’s named Thomas. She had helped him earlier this summer apply for an advanced ballot, which we found out Saturday he’d never received. Thomas was napping when Tina stopped by because he’d made the monumental effort to go vote early in person. He lives on one of the busiest streets in her district, and he was a special blessing to her campaign by hosting her 4’x4’ campaign sign in his front yard these past 45 days. Hosting her sign really boosted her name recognition and caused people to look her up online, saving her much time and money. When Tina rang his bell to see how he was doing, his son answered the door and told Tina the story of how they both just got back from voting for her. Their effort to vote with his health challenges deeply touched us. Our family is praying for Thomas.

Let us not lose heart in doing good,
for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
Galatians 6:9
