Auntie Em
For the last two weeks, my Aunt Emily has been fighting for her life. When she went into the hospital on September 19 at age 74, she was taking no prescription medications. At times during the past two weeks, we have feared that she would not make it. I would appreciate your prayers for her and our family.
Emily was my first playmate. Daddy was excited to welcome his new baby sister Emily Camille Boyd on July 18, 1952.

A year and a half later, Daddy had his own little girl—me. Here are Daddy’s sister and daughter a few months later. Emily is on the left.

Here we are with my pretty mother. Emily has no children of her own. Several years ago, she gave me her toy piano for our grandchildren.

While she and I were little girls, we got to be flower girls together in my Uncle Ronnie’s wedding. It must be about that time that Emily told people I was her granddaughter. After all, that’s what she heard Mama Sue say about me.

When Emily was five and I was almost four, my little brother Steve was born. In this picture, he is not so sure about his Aunt Emily’s kiss. I am sitting between Steve and Jim, another of Emily’s nephews. Jim was born two months after Steve in 1956.

Emily and I were bosom buddies. I spent many nights at her house. Often, when it snowed, Daddy Leland left his grocery store and drove the seven miles to take me to his and Mama Sue’s house to play with Emily. I don’t know why I am wearing a mask in this picture. Emily had quite a collection of Barbie clothes. The cannonball-style bed belonged to Daddy Leland. Now it belongs to us.

On this occasion, Emily visited Steve and me at our house. She is behind Steve.

When I was in second grade and Emily was in third, she and I were in a beauty contest together. Before (or possibly after) the contest, we posed with Daddy at Mama Sue and Daddy Leland’s house. Emily is on the right.

This may be one of the many roadside parks that once provided places for families to picnic while traveling.

This is perhaps my favorite of our pictures together. We are at Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains on a family vacation.

Ray and I stopped to see Emily and her husband in 2016 while we were in Texas for a homeschool convention. Please pray for Uncle Otto, too. He went into the hospital the same day as Emily and is now in rehab.

Cherish your moments with those you love and those who love you. Each is a gift from the God Who gave them to you.
Every good thing given
and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation
or shifting shadow.
James 1:17

Prayers for Emily.
Charlene what a heart warming collection of memories and pictures of Emily and her dear niece (you) and nephews. Thanks for sharing with all of us who love her and you! Love , your cousin Debbie (Head) Day .
