When I am feeling especially busy, I often say, “I’m dancing as fast as I can.”

Ray and I had a wonderful weekend attending events sponsored by the Timothy Demonbreun Heritage Society, which is made up largely of people like me who are descended from Timothy Demonbreun. My brother, our daughter Mary Evelyn, and her four youngest children were able to attend the Saturday evening dinner that concluded the festivities. During the meal, my brother looked over at his niece Mary Evelyn—a homeschooling mama of six children ranging in age from two to 14—and asked with a knowing smile, “So, Mary Evelyn, what do you do in your spare time?”

I was proud of Steve for acknowledging that our daughter is dancing as fast as she can and for giving her such a kind and insightful gift of understanding and affirmation. That gift is one of the best ways I know to love our neighbor as ourselves and to treat others as we want to be treated.

“And then in my spare time . . .”

Thank you, homeschooling mama, for dancing as fast as you can, too. When you are weary, remember Jesus’ invitation:

“Come to Me,
all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

I am deeply grateful to be able to report that the heart surgeon at Vanderbilt who would do the heart part of Ray’s complex transplant procedure wanted to see Ray in person on Friday. Praise God that the appointment went well. The doctor said that if the committee decides to do the transplant, he is willing to do the heart portion. This is a tremendous blessing from God. He also communicated his decision to the powers that be while we were still in the room. However, we do not know when we are to hear from the committee. Thank you for every prayer.

  1. Thank you for all the encouragement even when you probably need some encouragement yourself. I have added you and your husband to my prayer list!
