Encouragement and Merry Hearts
I experienced many joys last weekend during “the play” which is what we Homeschool Dramatic Society folks call this whole experience from tryouts through breaking down sets. One special joy was meeting two of you readers, one from Louisiana and one from Fentress County here in Tennessee.
This sweet mama from Louisiana contacted me early last week to find out how to get tickets. She and her children had accompanied their husband and daddy to Knoxville, Tennessee, on a business trip. Way to go! Getting to do things like that is one of the joys of homeschool freedom. For this mama and her children, it was the perfect time to take in an HDS play, and they did so on Friday morning.
Before the play began that morning, I was out in the lobby. A mama walked over to me and mentioned that she reads Daily Encouragement and uses Notgrass History. “Are you from Louisiana?” I asked. That must have been a surprise to that mama from Fentress County, Tennessee.
Before the show I got to visit with both mamas and their children who happened to sit in the same area of the theater with one family on one row and the other in the row in front of them. I really loved meeting them, as I always love meeting Daily Encouragement readers and families who use our curriculum.
The mama from Louisiana has a daughter who is about 13 and is a fan of our daughter Mary Evelyn’s books about Katy, which contain many true stories about our family. A mama recently wrote to say that her children had read Katy or Katy’s Box. They wanted to know if Ray really did sit on a milkshake in his driver’s seat. Yes, he did — plopped that Wendy’s Frosty® onto his seat and then a few minutes later forgot it was there and plopped himself right on top of it. Squish! What a mess!
This young Louisiana lady wanted to know about Katy’s family’s experience with plastic in the oven. Yes, I did hide a bunch of plastic containers in the oven one day just before a realtor showed our house. And, yes, I did preheat the oven later. Right then and there, I turned our oven into a cave with stalactites dripping from the oven rack.
It’s the goofs that make some of the very best family stories. I hope you enjoy your goofs today!
