Family Trivia
While our family was together at Christmas, I asked each person privately what group activity he or she would like to do while we were together. I am thankful that we got to do everyone’s suggestion. Requests included:
- Playing outside
- Singing

As you see, some of the kids had fun with the songbooks.
- Visiting
- Charades
- Playing Christmas Bingo

Here’s the table with some of the prizes scattered about.
- Playing the game, Take 5
- Watching the movie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
- English country dancing on the front porch
- Playing Family Trivia
Ray had the idea of Family Trivia and made it up while we were together. Unfortunately, we threw away the 15 questions, but Ray has remembered most of them. I thought the idea was a brilliant one and enjoyed playing it very much. I feel confident that the grandchildren had heard almost all of the answers before, but it was fascinating what they had not noticed or did not remember.
With a piece of paper and a pencil apiece, we sat in a circle in the living room while Ray read the questions (Of course, Ray used the grandchildren’s names in the game. I try to protect their privacy in my posts. I have put the answers in italics.):

What is our 12-year-old grandson’s middle name? Samuel
In approximately what year was Notty and Little’s house built? 1840 to 1845
How many windows are in the kitchen? 2
What organized league sport will our 13-year-old granddaughter and 11-year-old grandson be playing this winter? basketball
How many books are in Notty and Little’s library? We have no idea, but it was fun to hear everyone’s guesses.
How many grandchildren do Notty and Little have right now? 10
How many people were sitting around the table at lunch yesterday? 18
Mary Evelyn is named for Mary, the mother of Jesus. Who else is she named for? Little’s mother
In what town did Little grow up? Ashland City, Tennessee
In what town did Notty grow up? Columbia, Tennessee
How many cars have Notty and Little owned or leased in their marriage? owned 8, leased 1 (Except for about two or three years of our 50 years of marriage, we’ve only owned one at a time.)
How many states has John lived in? 4
How many nights have Notty and Little slept away from home in 2024? 75!
Words to a song in The King and I are running through my head: “Getting to know you, getting to know all about you . . . .” I’m glad Ray thought of this activity. It’s good for families to know one another. I’m thinking this might become an annual Christmas activity. What a blessing to be a family.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth derives its name,
that He would grant you,
according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with power
through His Spirit in the inner man,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ
which surpasses knowledge,
that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:14-19
