Finding Love

Human beings are born with hunger. In the short term, we hunger for food. In the long term, we hunger for love.

For each one of us, love means being welcomed into the life of another–welcomed for the long term.

For his first sermon of the New Year, Ray chose 1 John 3:1-3 as his text.

See how great a love
the Father has given us,
that we would be called children of God;
and in fact we are.
For this reason
the world does not know us:
because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God,
and it has not appeared as yet
what we will be.
We know that when He appears,
we will be like Him,
because we will see Him just as He is.
And everyone who has this hope set on Him
purifies himself, just as He is pure.
1 John 3:1-3

As Ray pointed out yesterday, this kind of love only comes from God.

God’s love is a love we can snuggle down into. Many other sources promise love, but ultimately only God gives complete love. He Who placed a longing for love inside us before we were born fulfills that longing Himself. What a great blessing it is to be loved like this.

Rest in God’s love as you enter this New Year and teach your children to rest in it, too.

For while we were still helpless,
at the right time
Christ died for the ungodly.
For one will hardly die for a righteous person;
though perhaps for the good person
someone would even dare to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Romans 5:6-8
