Folks Doing Good
As I drove through the Gainesboro town square yesterday, I saw civics at work.

Town of Gainesboro employees were busy decorating for fall before our upcoming Fall Festival this Saturday. As I pulled over to take a picture, a city pickup truck drove up . . .

. . . with a truckbed full of more supplies.

Our American flags from the 4th of July are still waving in front of the Jackson County Courthouse . . .

. . . and now scarecrows, cornstalks, pumpkins, haybales, and mums face them all around the square.

When I asked the dark-haired lady in the photo below who had come up with these decorations, she pointed to the men and said, “They did.”

I am comforted and encouraged when I see people quietly doing their jobs with diligence and creativity.
The next time you and your children do errands, I encourage you to look for people doing good. Help your children see positive examples. Talk to your children about the fast food server, bank tellers, and gas station attendants who came to work today. Say a prayer for the patient and paramedics in the ambulance that passes by. Tell your children how much you appreciate the people repairing roads and putting up new utility poles. Explain how long it took for their pediatrician to finish his education and training. Tell them about the courage and dedication it took for a small business owner to start a new venture. Explain the positive impact these owners make on the local economy and how they provide tax revenue to run the government.
Let’s open our eyes and help our children open their eyes to all the good around us.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute,
if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise,
dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8
