Fun From Sea to Shining Sea
Last March Ray and I awaited the arrival of a grandbaby who wasn’t in as much of a hurry as the rest of us. Not realizing how many nights we would need to be away from home in 2013, we talked about taking a mini-vacation while slowly heading toward the town of the upcoming birth. During our discussion, my list-making husband said, “Taking a vacation with you is on my list of things to do.” I’m okay with that. I’m just glad to make his list! We decided to go for it.
Our first stop was Hot Springs, Arkansas. While touring a National Park Service museum, we took pictures of each other behind a photo face stand-in cutout of a park ranger. That got the grandma juices flowing in me and the homeschooling mother ones, too. I began to plan a silly book for our grandchildren.
For the rest of the year, we looked for fun photo ops for our book. This Christmas the grandchildren got copies of “From Sea to Shining Sea with Notty and Little Mama.” I won’t bore you with all of the pictures, but I’ll share some, along with some captions. Maybe you will be inspired to do a similar book with your children. I can envision “Homeschool Funnies of the Jones’ Gang” or “Socialization Gone Wild with Timmie, Tammie, and Tina.” Are your creative juices flowing yet? If you decide to use this idea, I would love to see the result!
Please note that I took poetic license in my captions!
No, we didn’t sleep with camels or in Native American ruins,
but we did sleep in a concrete teepee!
From Sea to Shining Sea with Notty and Little Mama
Let the heavens be glad,
and let the earth rejoice;
Let the sea roar, and all it contains;
Let the field exult, and all that is in it.
Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy
Psalm 96:11-12
What a great idea!! I enjoyed the pictures you shared. My husband’s father has a terminal disease and he’s in Stage 4 and this year for his birthday we decided to go online and put together an album of memories about his life. It was so much fun to go through all the pictures and be reminded of the fun times he had in his life and it was a good reminder for the grand kids too that their grandfather wasn’t always like he is now. They got to see pictures of him living such an active and busy life. So I appreciate the idea of taking fun photos too. I was do thankful that my husband’s family had taken so many great pictures and your family will treasure your album too.
