From the Hearts of Our Team

I would like to share some additional thoughts about the meeting our company’s team members had last Friday. We continued chatting for a couple of hours after the consultant left the meeting. Our son John asked us to share why we do what we do at Notgrass History. It helped me to see how our team members see their work and to have a peek into their motivation.

We took this photo of part of our team
at our Christmas party this past December,
along with some special guests.
Even this one is missing three team members.
Wow! It is time for a new team photo!

And here’s a photo of our wise fearless leader,
Notgrass History president Ray Notgrass, back in 2021
when our headquarters was under construction.

Our son John said that he wants to help students understand what really happened—the good and the bad—and to learn how we can apply those lessons to our lives today.

Our daughter Mary Evelyn said that she wants to help kids be lifelong followers of Jesus. She believes that our curriculum is helping to mold them, shape them, and influence them.

Her husband Nate, who manages our warehouse and shipping operations, said that he wants families to understand God’s creation and to see their role in it.

My husband Ray said that he wants to help students understand the subject they are studying and help them know the truth because that will set them free.

I said that I want to help students make connections between God’s creation and what has happened in it, to help Christian families stay faithful, to encourage parents who are not strong believers to dig in and learn more, and to hold parents’ hands to support them and encourage them.

Our customer service representative Josh said that he likes to help families who are looking for curriculum that fits after they have tried other things that haven’t worked for them.

Our videographer Titus said that he wants parents to know that they don’t have to settle for something that makes their family miserable. They can find curriculum that they love.

Phil, who works in shipping and also represents us at homeschool conventions, said that when he talks to parents he tells them that our curriculum teaches the heart, soul, and mind. He said that it is a good education that focuses on the soul and a Christian worldview.

His wife Donna, who works in customer service and also represents us at homeschool conventions, said that being a homeschool mom was the best job she ever had. She said that the years her children hated were the ones when she used an all-in-one curriculum. She wants families to be able to pick and choose the resources they need to succeed. She said that we [at Notgrass History] don’t offer all subjects, but that what we offer is really good.

Bonnie, who serves as administrative assistant, social media manager, and online event coordinator, wants to help transform families and to help alleviate the regret that families feel for not homeschooling from the beginning.

Dena, who is our senior research assistant and proofreader, is thankful that she helps our curriculum to be high quality and clear. She reads it to be sure that students who are on the autism spectrum can understand it. She is thankful that it helps students hear about Jesus and hear about the truth.

My assistant Ella, who does research, proofreading, and clerical tasks, is thankful that her work helps to make our curriculum well-written, beautiful, and interesting to kids.

You can imagine my joy when I heard these words of encouragement from our team, each of whom is either a homeschool graduate, a current homeschooling parent, or a parent of homeschool graduates. I loved hearing what is in their hearts as we work together. It is my desire that their words encourage you, too. I am thankful to work with people who follow Paul’s teaching to Christians at Colossae when he told them:

Whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:17
