Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, were relatives. Elizabeth became pregnant first and when she was in her sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Mary. Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God. He also told her about Elizabeth being pregnant. Gabriel told her some other amazing things, too. He said:
The Lord is with you.
Do not be afraid.
Nothing will be impossible with God.
As you celebrate Christmas and hold onto the precious baby that God sent to be the Savior of the world, remember to hold onto those promises and assurances that He gave to Mary, because He promises them to you, too.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope
for He who promised is faithful.
