God Is on His Throne

When I thought from time to time yesterday about what to say to you this morning, one word kept coming to mind:

PEACE

And with that word, peace, came the the beginning of this hymn:

Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.

Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and he is on the throne.

It is enough: earth’s struggles soon shall cease,
and Jesus calls us to heaven’s perfect peace.

Our future has always been “all unknown.” It just seems more unknown right now.

“Pretty moon,” Ray said last night when he came in from a rare nighttime visit to the mailbox. I went to look. There it was brightly shining high in a darkening, but still blue sky. To the west, the sun still spread its pink glow just above the dark horizon. Fireflies danced in the twilight.

God was still on His throne. He is still there this morning. Jesus said:

These things I have spoken to you,
so that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you have tribulation,
but take courage;
I have overcome the world.
John 16:33
