Grateful Young Folks

Our young friend—I’ll call him Evan—is to be married this spring. He is so excited and I am so happy for him. He’s been part of our lives since we met him when he came home from the hospital as a newborn 22 years ago. One of my cherished memories is being the first person outside of his family to hold him.

When I was talking with his mama yesterday—I’ll call her Diane—she told me how excited he and his fiancée—I’ll call her Sara—are every time they see that someone has purchased one of their choices on their bridal registry. They were at his parents’ house the other day when Diane placed her order for the stand-up mixer they had chosen. Evan and Sara soon saw that someone had purchased it. Sara was so happy that she cried. You can imagine the secret joy Diane felt. I’m so glad she got to witness that sweet moment with her soon-to-be daughter-in-law.

I’ve watched Evan through all of his growing up years. I rejoiced with his parents and siblings when Ray and I watched him graduate from homeschooling in their family’s den. And now I get to share in his mama’s joy as she witnesses his sweet, humble, and grateful heart. What a joy. Thank You, Father, for the joy of family and the joy of fellowship in Christ and for gratitude in the hearts of those two young folks.

Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord,
so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted
and now being built up in Him
and established in your faith,
just as you were instructed,
and overflowing with gratitude.
Colossians 2:6-7
