Headline News: He Is Risen

Ray’s dad worked at a daily newspaper in Columbia, Tennessee, a small city in Middle Tennessee. For the 53 years he worked there, it was a real hometown newspaper with local stories of local people. Though he spent most of his years there laying out ads, first as a linotype operator and later on a computer, he had a reputation as the best speller at the paper. What wonderful camaraderie the staff had with one another. When our granddaughter asked me for a tray to create an Easter decoration for the kiddie table in the playroom, I joyfully handed her the tray he received when he retired.

Ray’s newspaper heritage explains part of the reason that he still has a subscription to a local newspaper. Yesterday when he received his digital copy of the Herald-Citizen, the newspaper in nearby Cookeville, he called me to his computer to show me the front page. At the top was the masthead of the paper with Herald-Citizen in large letters at the top. Below that were: Weekend Edition, Saturday, April 3, 2021/Cookeville, Tennessee, on the left, and 119th Year/No. 40  $1.50, on the right.

Below the masthead was the headline: He is Risen. The headline was superimposed on a beautiful, almost full-page, photograph with a yellow sunrise and, in shadow, a Cross.

Superimposed on the photograph at bottom were these words:

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.

—Matthew 28:1-8

Faith is alive in America. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Be strong and courageous.

And with great power
the apostles were giving testimony
to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus,
and abundant grace was upon them all.
Acts 4:33
