Ray and I are still “gobsmacked” about the gift our children gave to us. Our vacation was wonderful.

When God created the world, He made six days for work and one for rest. Jesus believed in rest. In John 4, He sat by a well while His disciples went into a Samaritan town to buy food. In Mark 6, Jesus sent the twelve apostles out two by two. When they returned, He told them:

“Come away by yourselves to a secluded place
and rest a while.”
(For there were many people coming and going,
and they did not even have time to eat.)
Mark 6:31

In Jesus, we have work to do and we have the promise of rest. One lesson that children need to learn at their parents’ knees is the balance of work and rest. Another lesson is that true rest comes in only one place–in Jesus.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
