Homeschool Fear # 1: I’m Afraid I Will Ruin My Children

Share Now

I’m a touchy-feely, huggy- kissy mama and grandma. You can imagine my dismay the day I told our two-year-old, “I love you,” and the response was, “I don’t want you to love me!”

“Well, I thought . . . I’ve ruined this one.”

If you knew this all-grown-up child now — this attentive, kind child, who lives to follow God and to bless other people, you’d find it hard to believe that conversation ever happened.

But, haven’t we all felt that way at one time or another? Maybe we have felt that way for a very long time.

The fear feels so real, but the truth is what really is real.

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord;
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psalm 127:3

God gave your children to you — specifically to you. They are His gift to you. He trusts you with them. You can trust Him to work through you.

Just because you cannot see what is further down the road, does not mean that God cannot. He wants your children to succeed even more than you do!

  1. AMEN!! I told my 3 year old last night that I love him and he said, “God love me more than you do!” How awesome!!! God will protect and love our children even through our mistakes. 😉

  2. Thank you! This is such a good reminder. My oldest is 20 and is trying to find a new job. He has a couple of different opportunities. It is so hard. But thank you for the reminder that YaHuWaH wants my children to succeed more than I do. I continue to pray that our son will make the decision that is right for him.

    Thank you for that….I need it today as I send my daughter off to repeat a college course that she did over the summer and earned a “D” in. It was a subject she is good in (Composition) and has always done well at so imagine her feelings when it was a “D”. After speaking with several advisors (not the instructor, she refused to meet….I can’t even imagine why this person is teaching, she obviously doesn’t want to deal with her students, others received poor grades as well) and with much prayer and tears, we are “putting her back on the horse”. But, as I’ve prayed and asked God to help, help, help her through this, I opened your blog post and there is was….He wants her to succeed more than I do??? Wow, He has not raised her to fail but to succeed. Brought tears and peace to this mama’s heart.

    Thank you!

    • God’s timing is perfect. When I was almost finished writing the encouragement for this morning, I wondered how to illustrate it and looked back at photos I have taken recently. The picture inspired the last words.

      • One of the advisors at the college she is attending said that he has actually had professors who wait until the day after the last day you can drop/add classes, pulled him aside and told him he would fail this class. He said he’s had professors who stood before the class and gleefully told everyone that no one makes any better than an “D” in their class (thus wrecking their GPA and scholarships). In the class my daughter took, everyone came out with failing marks or very low grades, across the board. It’s crushing for my daughter (but, unfortunately, it’s reality for so many) that she has never had anyone in her life that wanted her to fail and worked toward that end and then that be her first college experience. I’m praying fervently for her AND this instructor that this will be a positive experience that enforces her love of learning and proves that she CAN do this.
