Homeschooling the Hanging Out Way

All things came into being through Him,
and apart from Him nothing came into being
that has come into being.
John 1:3

Even sloths. Isn’t that fun! Even the sloths that hang around upside down in the rainforest treetops! Don’t you love God’s sense of humor? And to think — Jesus was right there with His Father having fun making sloths.

A sloth lives at the Chattanooga Zoo. Her name is Olive. The last time we were at the zoo, we got to her room right at feeding time. There she was hanging upside down eating long stem roses!

I wasn’t the only one snapping her picture. My competition for a good spot was a zookeeper with a cell phone. That meant I got to learn more about the sloth. The zookeeper told me that her name was Olive and that local florists donate flowers that are past their prime to the zoo. How cool is that?

I’ve been looking forward to sharing one of my pictures of a rose-eating sloth. Let me see . . . How can I turn this into an encouraging post? Hmmmm.

Let’s just say that if our Father and our Savior can have fun making sloths, surely it’s okay for you to have fun homeschooling! Proverbs teaches that a joyful heart is good medicine. Joy is good for learning, too, and good for just hanging out in treetops and the other zooey habitats your zoo-ey kids enjoy!

A joyful heart is good medicine,
But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22
