“I can do this for one year.”

When we began homeschooling in August of 1990, I thought, “I can do this for one year.” I even told people, “I don’t think I will ruin them in a year.”

Taken on our walk this morning, July 28, 2020

Perhaps I’m not the only homeschooling mama who has ever had that thought. Perhaps you were saying that yourself last August—or 10 Augusts ago. Perhaps you are here again. It’s almost August and you are asking yourself, “Can I do it again?”

A grandmother recently shared these words:

I, too, am a disciple of Christ, wife, mother, and grandmother. I will soon be 75 years young and have educated our granddaughter at home—starting our 10th year. (High school???? Yikes) I have been an educator for 55 years and still am so excited about the new things I learn every day. God is so faithful.

I asked her if I could share those words with you. She replied:

Absolutely. If my journey can encourage anyone else, well, what a blessing.

And He delights in his way.
When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong,
Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.
I have been young and now I am old,
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
Or his descendants begging bread.
All day long he is gracious and lends,
And his descendants are a blessing.
Psalm 37:23-26
