I never even dreamed it!

I haven’t physically pinched myself yet, but I have emotionally pinched myself many times in the last several weeks. Is this real? Did I, this small town girlĀ from a simple family whose daddy worked for his daddy in a grocery store and whose mother took in sewing, really find out in my fifties that my ancestor was made a noble by Louis XIV? Am IĀ really in Canada celebrating the 350th anniversary of the seignory he founded in 1667?

Ray and I are now touring places where Pierre Boucher lived and visited before he foundedĀ Boucherville, after spending three days in Boucherville celebrating with others of his descendants from Canada, France, and America; with descendants of the people he invited to live on the seignory, including a descendant of one of the 100 soldiers Louis XIV sent back with Pierre after he went to France to ask the king for help; and with the people of modern Boucherville.

The scope of the celebration that the Boucherville 350 organization planned for the town all year and for us descendants last week is amazing. I feel deep gratitude to God for making me aware that this was happening so that I could come. I am also gratefulĀ to the many people who did the work. When I thanked one of the organizersĀ and mentioned how much work it had been, she replied, “Not work. Just pleasure.”

This past Thursday an organizer took us on a walking tour ofĀ Old Boucherville. Here are some snapshots of the tour.

We had one celebration and meal and amazing activity after another over the three days. When I finally found time to call our children between activities, I had a hard time finding the words to explain all that had been happening and how I felt about it.

Here is a tiny attempt at an explanation. As I sat beside one of the members of our group centered in Nashville, Tennessee, at one of the activities, I told her, “I can’t say that this is a dream come true, because I never even dreamed it!” In other words, this has been beyond all that I could ask or think.

I have lived long enough to know that no matter how difficult things may seem at a given moment or a given period, no matter how long that period lasts, God can still give blessings beyond all that we could ask or think — and He does.

Now to Him who is able to do
far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works within us,
to Him be the glory in the church
and in Christ Jesus to all generations
forever and ever. Amen.

  1. The thought that came to me as I read your comment (“I canā€™t say that this is a dream come true, because I never even dreamed it!ā€ In other words, this has been beyond all that I could ask or think.”) is that this is what we will say when we get to heaven. We can’t even begin to fathom what heaven will be from our perspective now. Thank you for bringing us along and sharing all the wonderful happenings while you were in Canada.
