I Would Homeschool All Over Again — Reason 1

I would love to homeschool all over again! Once I learned how to do it sanely, I loved it. Deciding to homeschool all over again would be a joy to me personally, but that isn’t the only reason I would make that decision. I would homeschool again for the sake of our children. I feel that way for many reasons. Today I want to talk about one of them.

I would homeschool again for the sake of our children’s hearts and souls.

When I sat down to write my post for yesterday, I looked up the lyrics of a song I thought about including. I always check to make sure that the song is not still protected by copyright before I include the words. The song I had chosen was copyrighted in the 1950s, so I couldn’t use it.

My search took me to the website of the song’s publisher. I was surprised to find alternative lyrics along with the ones I knew. The website stated the purpose of the alternative lyrics, saying that they were for venues such as schools which cannot use the word “God.” Where the original song uses the words “God as our Father,” the copyrighted alternative lyrics substitute these words: “Earth as our Mother.”

I am heartsick. I would not want my children in an environment where they sang of Earth as their mother. I am grateful for the freedom I had — and that you have now — to honor God as our Father even when you are having “school.” Thank you for homeschooling.

When the crowds gathered around Jesus and He taught them what we now call the Sermon on the Mount, one thing He taught them was this:

Pray, then, in this way:
“Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
“Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:9-10
