Ideas Change But God Remains Constant
The world’s ideas about what is best for children change over time.
When our children were in the early elementary ages, I used to sit with my arms around their shoulders during church while they leaned on me. One day a dear friend who was a retired a school counselor praised me for doing this. She said that when her daughter was young, experts advised against mothers hugging their daughters.
Just this week an older woman told Ray and me that when her children were babies, “they” advised against touching babies. “They” said that touching babies hurt them. Being a devoted mother, she put her babies on a pillow when someone wanted to hold them so her babies wouldn’t hurt.
The world’s ideas about a lot of things change over time. I am thankful that God’s ideas don’t change.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.
