Jesus Offers Joy

How do you like the WPA poster I chose for this Saturday. I like that happy face. It makes me smile, too. One of the first songs I learned in Sunday School was “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart.”

In John 15, Jesus talked to His disciples about His being the true vine and His Father being the vinedresser. He spoke of God pruning the branch that bears fruit so that it can bear more fruit. Today, let’s thank God for loving us enough to prune us. Let’s thank Jesus for loving us enough to explain what God’s purpose is behind that painful pruning in our lives.

After telling them more about this pruning and bearing fruit process, Jesus talked to His disciples about love. Then He said:

These things I have spoken to you
so that My joy may be in you,
and that your joy may be made full.
John 15:20

Full joy—now, that’s the way to spend a Saturday. In the next chapter, Jesus had something else to tell His disciples about joy. What a comfort!

Until now
you have asked for nothing in My name;
ask and you will receive,
so that your joy may be made full.
John 16:24
