Jesus’ Prayer is Our Prayer

The Bible text at church yesterday was from Jesus’ prayer in John 17. In His kindness and concern, Jesus said (in verse 13) that:

  • He was not asking God to take His disciples out of the world.
  • Instead He asked God to keep them away from the evil one.

I thought, “That is what I want for our children and grandchildren—that God keep them from the evil one.” It’s what I want for me, too—always to be on the Lord’s side and never tied up in any way with the evil one.

God’s Word has powerful assurance regarding this issue.

Submit therefore to God.
But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Come close to God and He will come close to you.
James 4:7-8a

Cherish your opportunity to train, teach, protect, guard, and shelter your children at home. The world needs families who are in the world and away from the evil one.

This is what Jesus wanted for His disciples. He understands that it is what we want for our children, too.

But now I am coming to You;
and these things I speak in the world
so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.
I have given them Your word;
and the world has hated them
because they are not of the world,
just as I am not of the world.
I am not asking You to take them out of the world,
but to keep them away from the evil one.
John 17:13-15
