Leading Children

In verses 5 and 6 of “Once in Royal David’s City, Cecil Alexander tells what will happenĀ as a result of the glorious birth of Jesus Christ:

And our eyes at last shall see Him,
Through His own redeeming love;
For that Child so dear and gentle
Is our Lord in heaven above,
And He leads His children on
To the place where He is gone.

Not in that poor lowly stable,
With the oxen standing by,
We shall see Him; but in heaven,
Set at God’s right hand on high;
Where like stars His childrenĀ rise
Singing praises in the skies.

It is our job as parents to follow that “Child so dear and gentle” who “is our Lord in heaven above . . . ,” thereby leading “our childrenĀ on to the place where He is gone.”

If I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and receive you to Myself,
that where I am, there you may be also.
John 14:3
