Mamas and Kids Learning Together

All over America today, children and their mamas are learning something new. Children are learning their letters and algebra. They’re learning to read, to know the states and capitals, and a host of other new skills and bits of information. Mamas are learning better ways to teach, how to be patient, and how to manage a home while homeschooling. And Mamas are learning a host of skills and bits of information, too. It is all so exciting. Learning what my kids were learning was one of my many favorite things about homeschooling.

Several years ago, Ray and I had a new waiter at a restaurant. He was so new that his cheat sheet fell out of his order pad while he was talking to us. When I asked a question that stumped him, he had to find out the answer from another employee.

This tall and slim, friendly and eager young man did a great job waiting on our table. At the end of our meal, I asked him how it was to work in that restaurant. He said that it was a good Christian environment and that his employers were good people to work for.

Between the kitchen in the back of the restaurant and the tables where customers ate was a busy zone where waiters and waitresses bustled about. Hanging on its wall was the company’s purpose: “To glorify God in all we do by serving others.” The poster listed the company’s values: accountability, consistency, dependability, courage, dedication, discipline, integrity, humility, morality, and respectfulness.

What a wonderful environment to learn something new.

I’m thankful that Ray and I got to witness a nice young man in the learning stages of his new job. And I’m excited to think about you getting to do that day after day and about the wonderful learning environment you are creating for your children.

Whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:17
