Memories That Last 3

Almost every lady in our Wednesday morning ladies’ Bible class, including one I will call Miss Jane, talked about what her mother did at home. When I asked Miss Jane for thankful memories of her mother, her face beamed as she began, “There is so much . . . .”

Miss Jane, who is about eighty, said her mother was “the best cook.” She told how she kept a big garden and canned food for the winter. However, Miss Jane concentrated on what her mother did at the sewing machine. She told how her mother made all of Jane’s clothes and then when Jane married and had a little girl of her own, her mother sewed for her granddaughter, too. Miss Jane emphasized that when her mother made clothes, they looked like they came from a store.

Miss Jane’s mother showed love by caring about how her daughter dressed and also by caring how her daughter felt when wearing her clothes.

My mother even cared how my dolls looked. She made this dress for my Betsy Wetsy.

Caring for your children’s physical needs and for their feelings about even something as mundane as clothing will give them security. It’s what a loving parent does.

Consider the lilies, how they grow:
they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you,
not even Solomon in all his glory
clothed himself like one of these.
But if God so clothes the grass in the field,
which is alive today and tomorrow
is thrown into the furnace,
how much more will He clothe you?
You men of little faith!
Luke 12:27-28
