If you feel weary today near the end of the traditional school year, remember that Jesus invited everyone who is thirsty to come and drink. He gave a promise you can depend on.

After the first day of the homeschool convention in Oklahoma City last weekend, Ray and I walked a couple of blocks into the Bricktown section of downtown. After dinner we enjoyed seeing the canal.

We climbed the tall bridge that crosses over the canal . . .

. . . and admired the beautiful fountain under the Sante Fe railroad track.

The flowing water was soothing and peaceful.

Jesus talked about water a great deal. He turned it into wine. He spoke of the water of baptism. He talked about giving a cup of cold water in His name. He walked on water and told Peter to do the same. Jesus talked about being born of water and the Spirit. The disciples were awed when water obeyed Him. He poured water in a basin and washed His disciples’ feet.

One day Jesus talked to a woman at the well. He asked her for water. She was surprised that Jesus, a Jew, would ask her, a Samaritan woman, for a drink.

Jesus answered her,
“If you knew the gift of God
and who it is that asks you for a drink,
you would have asked him
and He would have given you living water.”
John 4:10

When the Samaritan woman heard about Jesus’ living water, she wondered how He could do that when He had nothing with which to draw water.

Jesus answered,
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
but whoever drinks the water I give them
will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give them will become in them
a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4:13-14

If you feel weary today near the end of the traditional school year, remember that Jesus invited everyone who is thirsty to come and drink. He gave a promise you can depend on:

“Whoever believes in me,
as Scripture has said,
rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
John 7:38
