Ray’s New Podcast

If all goes as we have planned it, one of my dreams is coming true today. We are launching Ray’s podcast, Exploring History with Ray Notgrass. This is how Ray describes what he plans to do:

This podcast offers background on what you hear in the news, shares stories from history that will enlighten and inspire you, and offers encouragement about homeschooling, family life, and your walk with God.

For many months, I have listened to Ray and thought that America needs to hear his wisdom and perspective in a podcast. I am grateful that my dream is coming true.

Ray Notgrass

After Ray and I listened to the first podcast yesterday afternoon for the final time before it is released today, I turned to look at Ray. Tears were in his eyes. His first topic is the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with comments about how that legacy can help heal a divided America today. I asked him to tell me the reasons for his tears. Ray said, “I lived through the events [described in the podcast] and I wish people would do the right thing.” Ray also said that he is grateful he has this opportunity.

Near the end of the podcast, Ray tells the story of reconciliation between members of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, where King once served as the minister, and a powerful politician who had repented after once being a staunch segregationist.

Ray concludes:

Although much remains to be done, we have come a long way. Isn’t it time now to honor King’s work and legacy? Isn’t it time to heal our divisions and not deepen them? Isn’t it time that we all work together to expand his dream so that all Americans – black Americans, white Americans, and those of every ethnicity – live in a nation where no one is [to quote Dr. King] “judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”?
