Seasons (Take #2)

Thank you for those of you who prayed for Ray’s cornea surgery yesterday. He has a red and irritated eye this morning, but the surgery went well and we are grateful.

We had a bit of a higgledy-piggledy time before we left for the surgery. On Monday I had written the blog post, “Sweeties and Sweethearts,” to post on the Daily Encouragement blog site on Tuesday and to go out by email that morning. On Monday evening, I thought about how busy I might be on Tuesday because of Ray’s surgery, so I wrote the post “Seasons” to go onto the blog site and out by email this morning. Alas, I put the wrong date on “Seasons.” That is why those of you who receive my posts by email got that very long email yesterday morning. It actually included both “Seasons” and “Sweeties and Sweethearts.”

I hadn’t been up long when I got yesterday’s email myself and discovered my error. Meanwhile, we wanted to get a seasons video ready to send out to you and to the folks who receive the Notgrass History email newsletter. The family of Titus (our videographer) had some sickness over the weekend, and neither he nor we wanted him to inadvertently share it with us.

That’s why Ray and I went out to our side porch yesterday morning, attached my phone to a tripod, and made the video. We recorded a take at about 8:54 a.m. and joined the company Zoom meeting at 9:00. About that time, our handymen/carpenters Ron and Darryl arrived to repair some gingerbread trim on our house. Ron called from the yard with a question and Darryl rang the doorbell with a question. I left the meeting and answered their questions. We watched the take. Oops. We needed to do it over again. We asked them to give us a few more minutes before they started working so we could make Take #2.

We made the video and sent it to Titus for editing. We wrapped up some loose ends and headed out the door for the surgery center. I was so rushed, in fact, that I noticed a bit of a problem when we got a few minutes away from home. I looked down at my feet and I was still wearing my slippers!

It was too late to go back home. After our one hour drive, I walked into the surgery center wearing my slippers. On the way home, I went into a sandwich shop for our lunch in my slippers, too. That “Never a Dull Moment Around the Notgrass House” that Ray asked me to cross-stitch in the early 80s is still hanging in our house for a reason in this season of our lives.

Hope this video is a blessing.

Then God said,
“Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens
to separate the day from the night,
and they shall serve as signs and for seasons,
and for days and years.
Genesis 1:14

  1. This is hilarious! And I can relate! A few years ago I arranged to meet a dear friend at a downtown cafe for lunch. I parked, stepped out of the car, and looking down, realized I had my slippers on too!:-) I was about 35 minutes from home so was not about to turn around. So I shrugged, went into the restaurant, and we had a good laugh and a wonderful lunch together! Sometimes our mistakes just add levity to our days! 🙂
