Simple Pleasures

Yesterday was a busy day for me, but it was also one of those sweet ah-h-h-h days. A Zoom chat with our son. A walk with a grandchild—at the grandchild’s invitation. A photo and a text from a friend. A phone chat with my brother, Steve, and another with my cousin, Tina. Beautiful light that called us outside just after sunset.

Sweet texts with one daughter and supper with another daughter and her family and lying on a hill with them, watching a meteor shower. The nighttime sky was magnificent. Indeed:

The heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their expanse declares the work of His hands.
Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
Psalm 19:1-4

Simple pleasures in God’s Creation, simple pleasures with friends, and simple pleasures with family nourish your children’s hearts and yours, too. Each is a gift from God. Subjects, such as English, science, math, and history, are very important. Shared simple pleasures are, too. Your children can repeat them over and over for the rest of their lives, and they can share them with future generations.

Every good thing given
and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
James 1:17
