Ray has a tender heart. Among my most favorite moments is when something touches him deeply and his eyes fill with tears. He blessed me with some of those moments yesterday when our son, John, our team member Bonnie, and I shared our newest project with him. It is a video we plan to release on Tuesday, the last day of our Winter Cheer series.

John turns 44 years old today. Happy Birthday, John! We are so grateful for you!

When Ray got out of the hospital, after he first was diagnosed with pneumonia, John came to visit us for a couple of days. What a joy! When he was in his early 20s, John wrote several songs and performed them for groups. While he was here, he serenaded us with some of our favorites, including “Seasons.”

When we made the videos for Winter Cheer, we decided to include a message about the seasons of our lives as mamas. I knew that John’s song would be the perfect ending. Titus filmed and edited my message. Bonnie and I have worked together to turn John’s song into a lyric video to attach to the message.

I have been going through hundreds of my photos to illustrate the seasons of our lives. Bonnie chose from among those and from photos Notgrass users have sent in for our photo contests to make a first draft. Yesterday morning Ray joined me at my computer to watch Bonnie’s first version together as John joined us on Zoom from Missouri and Bonnie joined us from West Virginia. John smiled happily and felt honored. Ray teared up.

During the day Bonnie and I worked together to make the video even more fitting for John’s message. I contacted friends for permission to use photos I had taken of them and asked them for photos of their families. Bonnie and I enjoy working together. Yesterday was one of those extra-special days of collaboration. At the end of the day, Ray, John, Bonnie, and I watched the lyric video again. The result was more smiles and words of joy from John and more tears from Ray.

Be looking for this new video on Tuesday. If it touches you, please share it with your family and friends. The song is filled with hope; it defines the goal of your life and mine, of your homeschool and mine, of your family and mine. I hope its message will reach many.

As you homeschool each day, you are training your children to live for God in each season of their lives. You are sharing with them the Lord Jesus Who offers them hope for life after those seasons. I am proud of you. Don’t forget to enjoy the seasons of your life and of theirs.

John based “Seasons” on these passages.

Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.
Psalm 139:14

Let no one look down on your youthfulness,
but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity,
show yourself an example of those who believe.
1 Timothy 4:12

I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the course,
I have kept the faith;
in the future there is laid up for me
the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will award to me on that day;
and not only to me,
but also to all who have loved His appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
