Caroling Illustration
The title of this print from the Library of Congress is “The Christmas Carol.”

Yesterday morning a large group of homeschoolers met at our local nursing home to sing carols for the residents. I was thankful to be able to join them. To my delight, the group came to our house afterwards to surprise my mother and sing for her!

Two scenes at the nursing home were particularly touching to me. As we spread out down a hall and sang into the open doorways, I stood outside a room that houses two women. One was in bed and the other was in a wheelchair. As we sang in the hall, the woman in the wheelchair sang to the woman in the bed. It was a blessing to see her serve and bless from her wheelchair.

At another location, another woman sat in a wheelchair in the middle of the hall while she enjoyed the children’s singing. When we sang “Silent Night,” she closed her eyes and earnestly sang along with us in a deeply worshipful way. Her faith was a light.

Children in the group handed out fuzzy socks and handmade Christmas ornaments to many residents. I saw joy in the givers and the receivers.

What a message of love is Jesus’ birth. Young and old shared that good news yesterday morning in Gainesboro.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,
and we saw His glory,
glory as of the only begotten from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
