Yesterday morning Ray sent me a link to a news story about the 50th anniversary of “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” It was one of those times when I was reading an online story and was surprised when all of a sudden someone started talking. Sometimes I find that irritating. And sometimes when this happens I am not even sure which of my tabs is talking to me (right now, I have twenty open!).

Yesterday the surprise voice was a delight. It was Linus quoting by heart:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field,
keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them,
and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not:
for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:8-14 KJV

I am thankful that I got to hear Linus. I am thankful other readers got to hear Linus. And I am thankful that Charles Schultz, “Sparky” to his friends and creator of the whole Peanuts gang, stood firm when television executives balked at including a reading from the King James Bible in “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

I am also thankful that generations of mamas, daddies, children, and grandchildren have heard Linus through the years.

Like you, I am even more thankful that:

By this the love of God was manifested in us,
that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
1 John 4:9
