The Parade in Front of Our House

Members of the Model T Ford Club of America came to Cookeville, Tennessee, last week during their national tour. They came from across the country. The Model T enthusiasts who lived close enough to our area puta-putted their Model T’s the old-fashioned way to get to Cookeville; those who lived far away brought theirs on trailers.

Each day club members drove the backroads of the Upper Cumberland, which is what we call the multiple-county region around Cookeville. Several months ago Ray and I learned about this event through our chamber of commerce. The original plan was for Model T club members to stop on our town square for about an hour last Wednesday afternoon. We’ve been looking forward to it, but the local visit slipped up on us. Ray remembered just in time for us to head to town.

When we got to the square, no Model T was to be found. I called a chamber member with a “What’s up?” That’s when we found out about an announcement made at the last chamber meeting. We weren’t there; that was the day we were in Atlanta and I was crawling through that rope bridge I showed you a few days ago. The special event was cancelled, but 100 or so Model T’s would still be driving through our town later that afternoon, just not in an organized way.

Soon a handful of Model T’s puta-putted through town, but we couldn’t wait all afternoon, so we headed home. At home we got a wonderful surprise. The designated route for that day’s drive went right in front of our house! I didn’t see all 100 Model T’s that day, but I did see, oh, maybe 40 puta-puta-puta — in ones, . . .

. . . twos, . . .

. . . threes, and . . .

. . . fours . . .

. . . right past our house! How cool was that!

It’s easy for a homeschooling mama to think she has to rush here and rush there to give her children all they need, but sometimes what they need to most is in their very own home sweet home — or in our case last Wednesday, in our very own front yard.

Every good thing given
and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
James 1:17
