The Priceless Gift of Being a Mama: A Role of Honor

Share Now

God declared mamas to be people who deserve honor and even reverence. In the law of Moses, God commanded that a person honor his father and his mother (Exodus 20:12). This command is so important to God that He included it in the Ten Commandments. Jesus and the apostle Paul reiterated the command to honor our parents in the New Testament. In Leviticus 19:3, God commanded: “Every one of you shall reverence his mother and his father.” Proverbs teaches:

Listen to your father who begot you,
And do not despise your mother when she is old.
Buy truth, and do not sell it,
Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.
The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice,
And he who sires a wise son will be glad in him.
Let your father and your mother be glad,
And let her rejoice who gave birth to you.
Proverbs 23:22-25

As we think about our weaknesses, it is hard to imagine that we are people who deserve honor, but we are. God declared us so when He made us mamas.

Her children rise up and bless her.
Proverbs 31:28
