My grandmother and great-grandmothers on my daddy’s side were all called Mama Something. Daddy’s mother was Mama Sue; his two grandmothers were Mama Boyd and Mama Head. I loved all of them very much. A special memory of Mama Sue was her laughter. I can see her now sitting and laughing at her kitchen table. Oh, how fun it was to get Mama Sue tickled. I don’t remember a sound, just her joyful laughing face. My kids love to get me tickled, too. I can completely lose it without making a sound.

Everyone has troubles. Its so easy to get bogged down in them and let them dominate our conversations and our days. No matter how much we try to shield our children, they can sense our sadness and worries and our joys and our gratitude.

A joyful heart is good medicine,
But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22, NASB

Don’t forget to be fun and silly and happy with your children. Let’s make sure they get a heavy dose of a joyful heart.
