Time to Get Dressed

Is getting dressed ever an issue at your house? Sometimes children really don’t want to stop what they are doing to do something as mundane as changing clothes.

Maybe they wouldn’t mind so much if they got to dress up like this:

I have to admit that sometimes changing clothes is an issue for me, too. What to wear? What to wear? Hmmm. Surely you ask that question at least every once in a while. Some of the best advice I have heard about that came from my friend, Olive:

Pick out your clothes for the next day the night before.

I love those mornings when I have followed her advice the night before, those mornings when I get up and everything I need for the day is hanging on one hanger in my closet. I can just bebop down the stairs and get going. Hmm… Sounds like a good idea for our children, too.

During a recent ladies Bible class, our teacher gave us powerful advice on something we can wear every day. As she spoke of the daily challenges of living as a Christ-follower, she said, “You gotta put on the armor of God every day.”

Jesus promised us that God would take care of the clothes we put on.

And why are you worried about clothing?
Observe how the lilies of the field grow;
they do not toil nor do they spin,
yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory
clothed himself like one of these.
Matthew 6:23-29

God takes care of what we — and our children — need to put on our bodies and what we — and they — need to put on our hearts, souls, and minds, too.

Therefore, take up the full armor of God,
so that you will be able to resist in the evil day,
and having done everything, to stand firm.
Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth,
and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith
with which you will be able to extinguish
all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
And take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:13-17

  1. Another lovely thing to wear:
    “She clothes herself with strength and honor and smiles at the days to come.
    She speaks with wisdom and kindness.”
    Proverbs 31:25-26
