You get tired, but God doesn’t.
I recently found a wonderful little book about the days of Creation. From the Little Bible Heroes™ series, it is titled simply, Creation. Victoria Kovacs is the author and Mike Krome is the illustrator.
I read it for the first time to some of our grandchildren on Sunday. Our five-year-old grandson helped me know that kids like it, too, when we got to day three. “That’s pretty,” he said. This scene from Canaveral National Seashore also illustrates the day that God separated the dry land and the water and made plants to grow.
This little grandson appreciates art and is artistic himself. He recently talked to me excitedly about this “puddle person” he saw after the rain. He saw many features, first of a person and then of a snowman. He helped me to see them, too.
In Kovacs’s Creation book, the illustrator illustrated the seventh day with sleeping animals and people. Across a two-page spread, a panda with a mouse on his back, Adam, a puppy, Eve, and a pig sleep contentedly side by side on the grass. Light from the moon — or perhaps from God — shines on their faces.
It’s spring. Many of you are coming into the home stretch of your homeschool year. I’m guessing that many of you are tired. If you saw that seventh day illustration, you might wish you could lie down on the grass with them.
Back in the databank of my brain is a lesson I learned from someone somewhere along my life’s way. The premise was that one reason God commanded the Israelites to rest on the seventh day was to teach them to trust Him. He wanted them to learn that He would take care of them even if they took a break. Their well-being did not depend solely on what they did. God was the real source of their blessings.
We can trust God to take care of us, too.
Therefore humble yourselves
under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you at the proper time,
casting all your anxiety on Him,
because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:6
We can also trust Him to give us the strength we need to do the jobs He has given us to do.
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
Isaiah 40:28-29
He is faithful.
He will cover you with His pinions,
And under His wings you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
Psalm 91:4
