Together

Yesterday morning I looked over at Ray after breakfast and said, “I’m sure glad we like each other!”

That will make it a lot more pleasant since it looks as if we are about to spend a lot of time together for the next few weeks! If you are like us, you have often wished that you could slow down. Here’s our chance, right?

Families who have longed for time to have dinner together, time to play games, time to read aloud . . . now have the opportunity.

If you get dressed up like this Egyptian diplomat and his family to play a game together, please send me a picture. That might be the only way I could believe you! Photo courtesy Library of Congress.

From the articles I am seeing online, parents whose children have been in public or private school are wondering what to do all day with their children. This idea of being together for long stretches of time is something new. Many super-busy homeschooling families may find that to be something new, too.

Together — what a blessing that is!

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brothers to dwell together in unity!
Psalm 133:1

My heart breaks for the elderly people in nursing facilities who can’t see their loved ones right now and for everyone who is going to be especially lonely in the coming weeks. Looking for ways to occupy your children in the time when they used to be at music lessons or co-op? It would be a wonderful time to write notes or draw pictures to mail to people who are missing “together.” It’s a great time to FaceTime, Skype, send photos, and to call grandparents, great aunts and uncles, and beloved older friends, too.

This is a good time to remember this about Jesus:

He is before all things,
and in Him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:17

He holds our families together, too.

The following passage that uses the word together is comforting for the time we are in now. I believe it. Let’s hang on to it — and to each other and to the lonely people who need us now more than ever.

And we know that God causes
all things to work together for good
to those who love God,
to those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28
