You and I are very important people. We know that because:

  • We are created in the image of God.
  • Jesus died for us.

Look in the mirror. Look at the people in your family pictures. Look at the contacts in your phone. Look at the face of the person in the car coming from the other direction when you are sitting at a traffic light. Each of those people is a very important person.

Helping other people feel and know that they are very important is a sweet opportunity. Training our children to make others feel important is also a sweet opportunity.

Our daughter and her family went to New York City a few months ago. They brought us back this beautiful hand-painted egg.  They purchased it in an international craft market. The egg is real and therefore quite fragile. I bought a stand for it and I keep it on top of a tall china cabinet so that it will be safe.

It is true that people are resilient. It is also true that people are fragile. People need tender loving care. I believe that giving tender loving care is a way to say, “I believe.” When we treat others with compassion and tenderness and attention and love, we say:

  • I believe in God.
  • I believe that God created the world.
  • I believe that God created you in His image.
  • I believe that God sent Jesus to die for you.

Every time you give compassion or tenderness or attention or love to a child or a friend or a sister or a parent or a brother or a stranger or to any other V.I.P., you are saying, “You are worth it!” And you are saying, “I believe.”

We know love by this,
that He laid down His life for us;
and we ought to lay down our lives
for the brethren.
1 John 3:16
