Holding On With Both Hands
Ray and I are in Virginia, where later this morning, we have the privilege of joining our oldest nephew and his family in a ceremony in which he is to receive a great honor. With joy we have watched as the little boy who carried our wedding rings on a white velvet pillow almost forty years ago has grown into a faithful husband, a devoted father, and today the recipient of a high honor.
Last night we sat around the dinner table with his wife, his sons, his mother and her twin sister, his parents-in-law, and his friends, just visiting and enjoying one another. This morning we all got dressed up to attend a ceremony where I expect to see many tears of joy.
Ray and I left home Wednesday night and drove a few hours into East Tennessee, so that our drive to northern Virginia yesterday wouldn’t be so long. What a glorious day it was with beautiful blue skies and with sunlight shining on the fall colors by the side of the road.
Several weeks ago I told you about my new friend whose husband went home to be with our Savior in mid-July. Since she and her children live along the way, Ray and I spent a couple of precious hours with her and their twin boys yesterday afternoon. We missed getting to meet their daughter who had classes yesterday, but I hope to meet her next time.
Wow, this homeschooling mother is doing a great job at living out both of those words. She is homeschooling well and she is mothering well. She is also meeting her joys and her challenges with deep and abiding faith. Her boys were fun and great conversationalists–worthy tributes to both of their godly parents.
When we got to our hotel late Wednesday night, I saw a fancy motorcycle parked outside. It was still there yesterday morning.
I don’t usually pay much attention to motorcycles. Please pardon me if you are a big fan. Our preacher and his wife took off out west with a motorcycle and tent a few years back. I know I’d hop on if Ray wanted me to, but you can be sure that I am glad that he doesn’t.
What caught my eye was this cup holder by the handle bar.
If I were driving a motorcycle, I’d be afraid to let go for a second to take a swig of water!
I spent yesterday with people who hold on tightly and with both hands to what’s important! Their lives show it.
But examine everything carefully;
hold fast to that which is good.
1 Thessalonians 5:21
Thank you!!!!
I hope you have a wonderful time at the ceremony this morning. Praise God for the many blessings and people He puts into our lives at exactly the right time.
In Him, our Master,
Wanda
You are welcome, Wanda. We did have a fabulous time this morning. Ray and I were just bursting with joy and appreciation for Chris. It was so good to hear his peers praise him and to see what a servant heart he has.
