We can’t lose for winning!
Yesterday morning a few stitches on a brand new garment came undone, making it unwearable. In my often late but rarely early mode, I was a bit frustrated at first. A saying I heard often during my childhood popped into my head completely uninvited: “I can’t win for losing.”
I hate defeatist thinking because it is debilitating in a certain circumstance; and, if we aren’t careful, it can be debilitating for life.
Unwilling to be defeated in that simple matter, I pulled down my travel sewing kit (which I keep handy in the laundry room between trips), sewed up the rip in a jif, and headed out to relish the day.
Every Christian is on the winning team. God said so. I propose a new saying for when we are feeling frustrated over little things such as undone threads or in agony about major ones like the very worst thing we can imagine: We can’t lose for winning!
What then shall we say to these things?
If God is for us, who is against us?
He who did not spare His own Son,
but delivered Him over for us all,
how will He not also with Him
freely give us all things?
