When God’s Heart Aches

One of the beauties of springtime in Tennessee — and in the rest of the country, too, I assume — is the blooming of our state flower, the iris, my mother’s favorite flower.

I have recently added a new activity to my mental bucket list. Someday I hope to be along the Gulf Coast in late April or early May when 2.1 billion birds migrate through or to the area. Here is a sampling of some of the species you can see on the Texas coast near Galveston.

Painted Bunting

Prothonotary Warbler

Indigo Bunting

Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Kentucky Warbler

Baltimore Oriole

Eastern Meadowlark

Blue Grosbeak

Swainson’s Thrush

Cape May Warbler

Blooming irises and migrating birds have lessons to teach us. They teach us that we can count on God to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

Human hearts ache when their children don’t do what they should do. God’s heart aches when His children don’t do what we should, too. Thank you for training your children well. Don’t give up. His way is perfect. The way of the world is not.

Even the stork in the sky
Knows her seasons;
And the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane
Keep to the time of their migration;
But My people do not know
The judgment of the Lord.
Jeremiah 8:7
