Wisdom from Miss Margaret

The same Miss Margaret, who sat with her granddaughter and great-grandson on a recent Sunday morning, made a powerful observation in a recent Bible class. On the Wednesday before Easter, we studied Bible passages that tell reasons Jesus came to earth. As we discussed His gift of forgiveness through His death on the cross, we talked about the equality of sin. By that I mean that sin is sin, and we are all guilty people in need of our Savior — whether we are disrespectful to our parents or we served as the top aide of Adolf Hitler.

It was at this point that Miss Margaret illustrated Proverbs 31:26.

She opens her mouth in wisdom,
And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
Proverbs 31:26

She said wisely that sin is sin, but they don’t all have the same consequences.

Teaching the two truths that sin is sin and that they don’t all have the same consequences are essential truths that God desires for mamas to teach their children.

All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
Isaiah 53:6
