Working Together

Yesterday was such a pleasant day. Except for a lunch break, I spent the whole day working on new videos in collaboration with our videographer, Titus. While we moved from room to room in our house in Tennessee, our social media manager, Bonnie, was providing research assistance for us two states away.

We began the day in my office at 8:25 a.m. where Titus and I worked together to change up the little corner where we often record videos. He replaced the wicker chair that usually sits there with an upholstered one from the library. Because our topic was winter and February, I ran an iron over a Valentine tablecloth, brought in a picture that has been hanging in another part of the house, and arranged the tube snowmen I made with some of our grandchildren on Sunday. Bonnie continued to work on behind-the-scenes tasks, and Titus loaded scripts onto the teleprompter. He stood behind the camera and I sat in front of it while we made the first recordings.

In between our lunch break and a brief meeting I had in the afternoon, we moved to the playroom, then to the library, and then to the kitchen. In each location, Titus and I moved things this way and that or added items we needed to the sets. He had an idea, then I had an idea, and then we settled on what to do. Finally, at the end of the day, we went outside where God had provided the perfect set without a bit of help from us.

By then folks were driving home from work, so we had several starts and stops while we waited for the noise to quieten. By 4:42 p.m., the recording was over, the equipment was put away, furniture was in its usual locations, and I was at my computer to email Bonnie with a wrap-up of the day.

I love working with these team members. The sharing of ideas and the give and take make it fun.

I don’t know how many times I have heard Ray talk about the importance of collaboration as opposed to compromise. In a compromise, each person gives up something. In collaboration, each person contributes and the end result is better than what either individual would have come up with on his or her own.

Thanks, Bonnie and Titus. It was a blast.

May God give you a collaborative day today in your family and in your homeschool, as we all continue to learn better how to work together.

Two are better than one
because they have a good return for their labor;
for if either of them falls,
the one will lift up his companion.
But woe to the one who falls
when there is not another to lift him up!
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
