What a joy it is to meet people who are walking the same journey. They give us much support and understanding. Today Ray gets to take a break. One of his three daily radiation therapists called yesterday afternoon to say that the machine is down so Ray will have today off. This means that he needs to continue through October 26, instead of October 25. I am trusting that God knows we both need a break for a day and that this, too, is in His holy will.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture from yesterday. As you see, we are doing well in spite of the circumstances. I took this for my friend Lexie who sent us a beautiful fresh<strong>cut<\/strong>\u2122 paper bouquet, so she could see her gift in its 3D glory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-50551 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/charlenenotgrass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG-3499-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/charlenenotgrass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG-3499-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/charlenenotgrass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG-3499-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/charlenenotgrass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG-3499-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/charlenenotgrass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/IMG-3499-1536x1152.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was a wonderful day for us because, though still very tired, Ray felt better than he had the day before and because our precious friends Garth and Terry went out to eat with us. We played one of our regular fun and competitive games of Spades. They are a lifeline for us.<\/p>\n<p>We were both exhausted last night so I searched for a blog post from long ago to share with you today. The following message is from 2014 and includes its original illustration. I pray that it is exactly what you need to hear today. Here you go:<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">A Child Who Is Loved (from July 17, 2014)<\/h4>\n<p>My purpose each day is to encourage you in your vital role as mama. Today I want to encourage you in one of the most important things you will ever do for your children.<\/p>\n<p>Mama love is as basic a need for the human soul as air, water, and food are to the human body.\u00a0Please make sure that each of your daughters knows you love her and each of your sons know you love him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-50550\" src=\"https:\/\/charlenenotgrass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Puerto-Rico.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"383\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Mother and Child in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1942<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Courtesy of the Library of Congress<\/em><\/p>\n<p>No son should ever feel that he is less valuable than anyone else in his mother&#8217;s heart.\u00a0No daughter should ever feel that she is less valuable than anyone else in her mother&#8217;s heart.<\/p>\n<p>Show love with your eyes, with your smile, with your concern, with your attention, with your time, with your sacrifice, and with your heart.<\/p>\n<p>A mama recently shared with me her love and concern for a wayward adult child. As we talked, she spoke of how mamas have to stay true to their children and keep on trying with them no matter how much it may hurt. She talked of the need to pray for our children and about how they have no one else who loves them so much.<\/p>\n<p>Do you know anyone who did not grow up cradled in the loving nourishment of a mama&#8217;s love? Maybe you didn&#8217;t grow up with that loving nourishment yourself. Many who grew up that way find living so hard. They find loving so hard.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps hardest of all is receiving love.\u00a0Some people who grow up without their mama&#8217;s devotion hurt everyone who tries to get close to them. When they spend time around people who truly love them, that love hurts because it isn&#8217;t coming from that mama whose love they long for so much. Their souls are hungry for mama love like a starved person hungers for food.<\/p>\n<p>Another mama told me a while back that her daughter-in-law verbalized to their whole family that their family&#8217;s love and closeness felt good to her son, but because of the painful childhood she endured, their family&#8217;s love and closeness hurt her. How very sad for love to hurt.<\/p>\n<p>People can overcome the lack of a mama&#8217;s love. I have known some amazing people who have thrived in spite of this stumbling block, but we certainly don&#8217;t want to put a stumbling block in the way of our children.<\/p>\n<p>You can give your children many things today. Make sure that your love is first and foremost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>But we proved to be gentle among you,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>as a nursing mother tenderly cares<\/em><br \/>\n<em>for her own children.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>1 Thessalonians 2:7<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ray and I continue our journey through his daily radiation treatments.
