Your Storm Will Be Over

The weather was calm and warm on Friday. Suddenly leaves fell like rain. The wind pushed them almost horizontally.

One of our grandchildren and I rushed outside. I brought my camera, but I couldn’t capture the moment. The leaves in the air in this photo are a tiny fraction of the multitude that had just fallen. The wind kept rushing, bringing refreshing cool air. I can’t describe what we experienced — the word that comes to mind is action. Our little one twirled, threw her arms into the air, and exclaimed, “This is wonderful!” It was.

After we went inside, the wind blew hard, rain pelted the roof, and thunder roared. Soon the joy turned to fear in the little one and she climbed into my lap for comfort.

I explained to her what happens to a storm. They come, but they don’t stay long. I don’t remember ever voicing that reality in the same way before.

Sure enough, in a short time, the rain fell only slightly. The normally dull pavement shone.

Droplets clung to my roses.

Fog rose above the river and the sun pierced the clouds. The rain-soaked road reflected the brilliant afternoon sun.

When the disciples awoke the Master Who lay peacefully asleep in the storm, He told the wind and the sea:

Hush, be still!
Mark 4:39

A few months ago I met a woman who had survived Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Her losses were terrible and her life won’t ever be the same. However, though the storm was a terrible experience for her, it did pass. Yours will, too.

Jesus asked the disciples why they were afraid. He asked, “Do you still have no faith?” Jesus could sleep during the storm because He trusted. So can we.

  1. What a beautiful illustration of a comforting truth. We were listening to a pastor this weekend talk about how we can doubt God in a trial for many reasons. Usually it is when our faithfulness doesn’t match up with our circumstances. He used the story in Luke when John the Baptist was asking the disciples to go and ask Jesus if he really was the Messiah that they had been waiting for or should they look for another. We’ve all been there….but the storms do pass and the clouds lift and we see things more clearly. God is so faithful!

I think you live in a beautiful place! The pictures made me want to load up the kids and come visit!

    Thanks again, sweet Charlene!
