At Our Feet and Under Our Noses

After cruising to Anacapa Island and back on Saturday afternoon, we searched on shore for the perfect spot to watch the sunset. Finding that perfect spot, we trekked in our street shoes across the sand and stones, . . .

by kelp washed up on the shore, . . .

and by the footprints of other people who had walked that way before us.

We easily found a quiet spot beside the shore. There we waited, while we watched the sun reflect on the water at our feet.

Suddenly the moment came and the sun began to dip below the horizon.

“Where is everybody else?” Ray wondered, meaning everyone who lives nearby. How could they be in their homes when this magnificent view was happening? Of course, we understand that people have things to do and maybe they can’t watch the sunset every day. Still, we get so used to what is close by that sometimes we forget what is right under our noses — or right at our feet. Look around with wonder to see what you might share with your children that is right at your feet or under your nose.

You are the God who works wonders;
You have made known Your strength among the peoples.
Psalm 77:14
